Laurier Rochon  |  art + multimedia + design + programming
I am interested in making beautiful things that can be interacted with.
Currently a BFA student at Concordia University in Montreal, I have a technical degree (DEC) in Multimedia. I have been working in the field since 2004, and have been submerged in technology since the late nineties. My work ranges from very technical to completely abstract; my art practice deals mostly with the ubiquitous quality of technology and consequences of social patterns. My contribution as a Multimedia Developer to my workplace, 1-20media, is often that of coding web-based applications and design for both print and on-screen projects. Although I have more formal training in design, I quickly realized the huge power of interaction through programming and giving the possibility for people to create their own meanings with objects surrounding them. This is reflected in all of my personal, professional and academic works.

As a person, I am always pushing myself to learn new things, be it for my work or in general for my life. I am also very organized and obsessed with details.

Geek skills
Client-side and server-side technologies are the essentials, for example php, asp + vbscript, javascript, css, xhtml, xml, ActionScript 2.0 and Ajax are the most commonly used. I also know Processing very well, meaning I have a good understanding of Java. Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash are etched in my brain forever, I am also comfortable with Indesign and Premiere

There are a few other random things I can do such as mix a live set of music with Traktor, wire up electronics to an Arduino board, setup a wireless network packet sniffer and program a thumb-sized server (xPort) to send information to your favorite database.
